About the Client
Our client is a rapidly expanding, regulated crypto and fintech company with operations across Europe. As the business prepares for upcoming MiCA requirements and continues to grow into new markets, it is strengthening its governance and control framework. The company is now looking for a Head of Risk — a strategic yet hands-on leader who will build and oversee the enterprise risk management function. 

Role Overview

As the Head of Risk, you will take ownership of the company's overall risk management framework and ensure that all critical risks — operational, technological, financial, and compliance — are identified, measured, and managed effectively.
You will work closely with the C-levels, driving a proactive and forward-looking approach to risk while enabling innovation and growth in a regulated crypto environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework suitable for a fast-scaling crypto fintech.

  • Define and formalize the company's risk appetite and tolerance levels, ensuring they are integrated into decision-making and business planning.

  • Oversee regulatory risks and MiCA compliance, including requirements related to governance, capital, disclosures, and operational resilience.

  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks across business lines — from product and compliance to technology, operations, and partnerships.

  • Provide senior management with risk insights and strategic recommendations, supporting informed, data-driven decisions.

  • Establish effective risk reporting line and tools, ensuring clear communication with auditors, regulators, and the Board.

  • Promote a risk-aware culture throughout the organization, embedding practical risk ownership across teams and processes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in risk, compliance, or internal audit within fintech, payments, or crypto; 

  • Proven record in building and operationalizing risk frameworks within regulated financial or crypto-asset institutions.

  • Strong understanding of MiCA and the European regulatory ecosystem for digital assets.

  • Hands-on experience with licensing and supervisory bodies (e.g., FNTT, FIU, MFSA, Central Bank of Latvia) is an advantage.

  • Working knowledge of ISO 31000, COSO, EBA Guidelines on Internal Governance, and DORA requirements.

  • Skilled in risk assessment, scenario modeling, stress testing, and business continuity planning.

  • FRM, PRM, CISA, or equivalent professional certifications are highly valued.
